Here's what you need:
-Buttons
-Headband
-Felt
-Stamps and Ink (optional)
-Scissors
-Hot Glue Gun (or glue of your choice)
-Twill
1) First decide what size flower you want to make. For the large flower, use 3 feet of twill. For the medium flower, use 1.5 feet of twill. For the small flower, use 1 foot of twill. You can use either patterned twill or plain twill that you can stamp yourself. If you chose to use patterned twill, you can skip to step three. Using your plain twill, choose a stamp and ink. I used a Stampin' Up single polka dot and Mango Mambo and Chocolate Chip ink. Stamp your design on BOTH sides of the ribbon. The closer the pattern, the better. You will see why further along in the project. If you choose to, you can ink both edges of the ribbon like I did. All you have to do is run the ink pad vertical along the edge of the ribbon until you get your desired effect.
3) Next, baste your ribbon either by hand or sewing machine.
4) Slowly begin to gather the twill, being careful to gather slowly so you don't snap the thread. Once you have your twill gathered all the way through, cut a felt circle. The size varies depending on the size flower you want. (For the large flower, I used a 2 inch circle; for the medium flower I used a 1.5 inch circle; and for the smallest flower I used a 1 inch circle.) Glue one end of your gathered twill to the edge of your felt circle.
5) Continue to wrap and glue your twill around the outside of the felt circle.
6) When you reach the middle of the circle, glue the end of your twill to the center of the felt circle.
7) I used three different sized flowers to make my headband. If you choose to do the same, repeat steps
1-6, varying the size if desired. If not, you can make just as nice of a headband with only one or two flowers.
8) Now it's time for embellishments! You can add many different things to the middle of your flower, such as rhinestones, brads, or buttons. I used buttons. For my medium sized flower, I also basted a small piece of brown ribbon, glued a small button to it, and placed it in the middle of my flower.
9) Next, cut one piece of felt that covers the back of each flower. This piece will be your back.
10) Then put a line of glue down the middle of your back and glue it to your headband.
11) Glue your flowers to the back. After all the flowers are glued down, you are done!
