My family and I spent the 4th of July week in South Carolina. We spent a few days in Charleston and a few days in Folly Beach. On our looooong drive home (18 hours), we stopped at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina.

About a week before leaving, my mom and I took a photography class with the amazing Donna Boucher. We learned so much and were really excited to apply our newly-learned skills to our vacation pictures. Right after the class we went straight to the Camera Company where I got my new 50 f/1.8 lens that I absolutely love. I am proud to say that I shot 99% of my vacation pictures on Manual mode.

Hello Everyone! I'm Katie, You can find me over on my blog Punk Projects, where I post lots of crafty ideas and tutorials, inspiration etc. Jordan asked me to do a guest post for her Blog, and I had lots of fun making this tutorial for you guys!

Tools and Supplies:

Pictures (I used pictures from a recent mountain biking trip my family took.)

Patterned Paper

Pretty Colored Ribbon

Misc Embellishments

Hole Punch (I like to use the Crop-o-Dile)

Sewing Machine

1.Print out your pictures to wallet sized. Cut them out.

2. Back them some neat patterned paper.

3. Take your ribbon and fold it in half around the edge of your picture.

Sew down the edge of the ribbon - Make sure both sides of the ribbon get sewed down.

4. Continue with the ribbon around all 4 sides of your picture, and repeat with the rest of your photos.

5. Decorate your pages, with stickers, letters, paint, etc.

6. Punch a hole through the corners of all your pages and thread and tie some ribbon through them (I actually used some twine, because I liked the feel of it. )

Long time no blog (:

For quite a few ~~weeks~~ months, I have had the freedom to craft pretty much every single day after school and all day on the weekends, uninterrupted by homework. And it was soooo nice. But these last couple weeks, I was slammed with homework and final exams. Bam. It's back to reality for me.

Even though I have had a lot of school-related work to do lately, I have still set aside a little time to craft. So what exactly have I been up to since I fell of the face of the blog world?

I made this lace flower headband.

I beaded these bookmarks for both of my grandmas, as well as my mom, my aunt and my sister.

I made another flower headband.

I sewed these ruffled camera strap covers for my mom.

And yet another flower headband. Want to know how to make your own flower headband? Check out my tutorial here.

We celebrated my 15th birthday.

I made this flower necklace.

I sewed this headband from this tutorial.

I loaded up my fabric stash with all these fun fabrics.

Since it is the height of our high school's basketball season, I made these cute headbands in our school's colors.

I have been living by my one little word since the beginning of 2011.

And finally, I have been working on my 2011 project life. Here are some of my project life ideas:

-Try swapping a journalling block for a 2x3 photo.

-I round the corners of my photos with a corner-rounder.

-I journal in a neutral color (dark brown) and use a bright color to make one word out of my journalling pop.

So in a nutshell, that's what I've been up to lately. I'll get back to my regular posting as soon as I can.

As the school year is flying by, my family and I are trying to come to the realization that my brother is leaving for college in the fall. He won't be there when we wake up in the morning, or when we have family movie nights. We are all so very proud of him, and he will be missed greatly.

This layout captures the way I cherish the moments that I get to spend with him.

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked to make an album for our school's varsity boy's basketball coach. I was super excited to take on this project, and I completed it in only one week! The album is about 26 pages front to back, but the season is still in progress, so more pages might be added later on. Here is a look inside of the album:

I left the journaling blocks empty so the coach's wife could fill them out.

I left quite a few pages like this for more articles to be added as the season progresses.

Another picture needs to be added in place of the sticky note.

The last page is just a page for the coach's wife to add pictures and journaling as she pleases.

handmade gift exchange.

A couple months ago, I signed up for the Craftaholics Anonymous Handmade Gift Exchange. I am so happy I did, because I got to meet my new friend Dori! I made her a hanging notepad/key hanger. It can be seen here on her blog.

In return, I got the most amazing gift ever. Dori made me a purse! It's cute. It's girly. And it's SO me!

It is perfect to store everything I need when I leave my house.

I would like to thank you again Dori, this purse is absolutely amazing and I love it so much!

recipe: cheesy rolls.

I have been feeling under the weather lately, which explains why I haven't posted in a while. While I was sick, there was only one thing that still tasted good. And it was these cheesy rolls. They are super simple to make and can be made and put on the table to eat in about 15-20 minutes.

Here's what you need:

-One 8 oz. package of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

-A block of chunk cheese (you will use about 4 oz, or half of the block shown in the picture)

Directions:

1) Preheat the oven to 375°

2) Cut 8 chunks of cheese. There is no exact measurement for this; the cheesier you want your rolls to be, the bigger you cut your chunks of cheese.

3) Lay your rolls out on your pan. Put one chunk of cheese at the widest end of each roll.

4) Starting at the end with the cheese, roll up the dough. Pinch in the ends so the cheese doesn't ooze out when they are in the oven.

5) After you have rolled up each one, put the pan in the oven. Cook for 11 minutes or until golden-brown.

And you're done! These warm cheesy rolls are a great snack on a cold winter day. Let me know what you think!

Last Friday, my contest winnings from the Creating Keepsakes Teen Talent Search were waiting for me when I got home!

I opened all my boxes and got to see all my goodies! It was so exciting!

With all these new supplies, it would only be right to use them right away!

My mom and I decided to do a "Sunday Sketch Challenge." We chose a random sketch, and each made a page. The point of this was not only to finish another layout, but to see our different interpretations of the sketch. The sketch is the Becky Fleck November 2010 layout from Page Maps. Here it is:

twill flower headband tutorial.

Here is a tutorial for this beautiful flower headband. (:

This was inspired by a tutorial for a flower pin from the Jillibean Soup Blog. You can see her flower pin tutorial here.

Here's what you need:
-Buttons
-Headband
-Felt
-Stamps and Ink (optional)
-Scissors
-Hot Glue Gun (or glue of your choice)
-Twill

1) First decide what size flower you want to make. For the large flower, use 3 feet of twill. For the medium flower, use 1.5 feet of twill. For the small flower, use 1 foot of twill. You can use either patterned twill or plain twill that you can stamp yourself. If you chose to use patterned twill, you can skip to step three. Using your plain twill, choose a stamp and ink. I used a Stampin' Up single polka dot and Mango Mambo and Chocolate Chip ink. Stamp your design on BOTH sides of the ribbon. The closer the pattern, the better. You will see why further along in the project. If you choose to, you can ink both edges of the ribbon like I did. All you have to do is run the ink pad vertical along the edge of the ribbon until you get your desired effect.

3) Next, baste your ribbon either by hand or sewing machine.

4) Slowly begin to gather the twill, being careful to gather slowly so you don't snap the thread. Once you have your twill gathered all the way through, cut a felt circle. The size varies depending on the size flower you want. (For the large flower, I used a 2 inch circle; for the medium flower I used a 1.5 inch circle; and for the smallest flower I used a 1 inch circle.) Glue one end of your gathered twill to the edge of your felt circle.

5) Continue to wrap and glue your twill around the outside of the felt circle.

6) When you reach the middle of the circle, glue the end of your twill to the center of the felt circle.

7) I used three different sized flowers to make my headband. If you choose to do the same, repeat steps
1-6, varying the size if desired. If not, you can make just as nice of a headband with only one or two flowers.

8) Now it's time for embellishments! You can add many different things to the middle of your flower, such as rhinestones, brads, or buttons. I used buttons. For my medium sized flower, I also basted a small piece of brown ribbon, glued a small button to it, and placed it in the middle of my flower.

9) Next, cut one piece of felt that covers the back of each flower. This piece will be your back.

10) Then put a line of glue down the middle of your back and glue it to your headband.

11) Glue your flowers to the back. After all the flowers are glued down, you are done!

CK's Teen Talent Search 2010

I have a very special announcement to make! In August, I entered Creating Keepsake's Teen Talent Search Contest after my mom read about it in her magazine.

For the contest, you had to send in a picture of a memory-related creation you made that used photos to tell a story, capture a moment, or relive an event from your life. I decided to make an altered canvas of my trip to Hawaii. I almost didn't finish my project, but my mom pushed me to. I am so happy she did.

I later found out that I had been chosen in the top 10 out of over 500 entries! The Grand Prize Winner was chosen by the number of votes received during the online voting. My family and I voted every spare second we had. We knew the odds I would win were slim.

Last week I found out that I was the Grand Prize Winner! I couldn't be happier. I want to thank my family and friends for voting, and a special thanks to my mom. She voted every second of everyday; even while she was making dinner, she walked around with the laptop and voted (:

Layout One

This is a layout I came up with. It is extremely basic and simple, however, once finished, it is a great addition to your album. Here's the sketch:

The pictures used are 2x3 and 2x2 (as shown). You will find that you may need to crop some of the pictures an additional few millimeters when you begin to lay them out. I matted and popped up 3 pictures that I wanted to stand as focal points.

I made this for the title page in my Europe album.
